چکیده

Despite intensive efforts over the last 30 years, the mode of insecticide action remains largely undetermined. Cholinergic enzyme systems have been identified as targets of organophosphates (HAYES, 1975) whereas respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive, and most prominently, neurological dysfunctions are implicated vectors in organochlorine toxicity (SHANKLAND, 1964; EMERSON et al, 1964; HYDE et al, 1973). Additional evidence supporting organochlorine neurotoxicity has recently been provided through electrographic studies in this laboratory (HYDE and FALKENBERG, 1976) and elsewhere (W00LLEY and BARRON, 1968; JOY, 1973, 1976)o Many of these investigations have, however, concentrated on in vitro responses or on individual physiological indices; rarely considering more than one responding system. We feel that a more definitive knowledge of intoxicative pathways might be obtained by monitoring simultaneous reactions in the intact animal. Our objective was therefore to compare acute electrophysiological effects of representative organochlorine (0C1) and organophosphate (0P) insecticides on the laboratory rat. Concurrent neurological, respiratory, and cardiac involvement were primary concerns.

Effect of Acute and Chronic Heat Exposure on Frequency of EEG Components in Different Sleep-Wake State in Young Rats

The recent literatures indicate that central nervous system (CNS) is highly vulnerable to systemic hyperthermia induced by whole body heating on conscious animals. In the present study, cerebral electrical activity or EEG (electroencephalogram) following exposure to high environmental heat has been studied in moving rats. Rats were divided into three group (i) acute heat stress-subjected to a s...

Objective(s):The present study was undertaken to determine the effects of acute exposure to malathion on oxidative stress and cytotoxic potential of anticholinesterase insecticide, malathion in reproductive toxicology of adolescent male mice. Materials and Methods: Thirty two adolescent male mice at pubertal age were treated with 500 mg/kg body weight (BW) of malathion for three days. After ex...

Effect of Permethrin insecticide and Paraquat herbicide on growth and population density of freshwater Rotifer (Brachionus calyciflorus)

This study evaluated the acute toxicity of herbicide paraquat and the insecticide permethrin and their impacts on growth and reproduction of freshwater rotifers Brachionus calyciflorus according to the guidelines OECD. The acute toxicity (LC50 24h) of paraquat and permethrin on freshwater rotifers B. calyciflorus were 0.541 and 8.997 mg l-1, respectively. The level of exposure responses of roti...

Acute Toxicity and Biological Responses of Clarias gariepinus to Environmentally Realistic Chlorpyrifos Concentrations

In this study, the lethal toxicity, behavioral responses and hematotoxicity of formulated chlorpyrifos on Clarias gariepinus was evaluated. C. gariepinus fingerlings were exposed to 0.2 mg/L, 0.25 mg/L, 0.3 mg/L, 0.35 mg/L and 0.4 mg/L of the active ingredient chlorpyrifos to determine the lethal concentrations and behavioral effects. C. gariepinus juveniles (38.84±7.67g) were then exposed to 0...
